student work from our recently completed painting/color unit: Cultural Quilts.

Students chose a culture and looked at copies of patterns (based on the culture’s artwork) to create their own set of patterns. We learned about different color schemes…then students painted the patterns using those color schemes.

Some of them struggled with the painting aspect, and I know a few of them didn’t like this project at all. It WAS my first time teaching this however, so there are kinks I still need to work out.

Photography in Adaptive art

HELP!

I need some suggestions.

I teach an adaptive art class in a high school.  Turns out we have some pretty interesting cameras that I want to use with my ten special education students.  The cameras are basically fancy looking 35mm point and shoots.  They look like the SLRs my regular students use, but are a fraction of the cost and are SUPER easy to use.

I would love each of my students to be able to take a roll of photos.  I have a student aide that knows how to use the darkroom, so I could probably have her print their pictures.  My question is…

What can I have my students do with the photos??  Most students are functioning at about the first or second grade level.  I want a project that will show off the pictures they took, but I want them to have a hand in the final product and the darkroom doesn’t really allow for that.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I am looking for a good teacher bag

I need a big one. My current one is HUGE, but cheap (I got it at Target) and I am scared it will rip soon. I need it to be able to hold 3 binders plus a couple of books, since I don’t get to plan in my classroom. Suggestions? Ones you love?

I’m totally buying this with my first paycheck…

Life without…

Students, I want you to brainstorm what about our lives would be different without photography…

Students respond with three amazing and deep answers.
1. No Instagram
2. No pictures of cats on the Internet
3. No tumblr (end of the world)

Forecast for the week. It’s so great that I walk 1.5 miles to school every day.

It was 7 degrees today in northern Illinois… I thought I was dying just getting the mail.

*Exhale*

I officially have the first three weeks of my lesson plan book FILLED.  Completely filled for all five of my classes.  I feel pretty accomplished, and its only Tuesday.  I feel like all this time to plan will take at least a little bit of the stress off come Monday!
